Set amid mirror-flat lakes, Italianate gardens and mature woodland, Haggerston Castle has all the ingredients for a wonderful family holiday.
Near to Haggerston Castle are the historic sites of Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Lindisfarne, Holy Island Monastery, the Elizabethan walled city of Berwick upon Tweed, Bamburgh Castle, St Cuthberts Cave, Paxton House, new Millennium 'blinking eye' Bridge and for the children is Pot a doodle doo and Conundrum Animal Farm. For those who like to walk there are the Cheviot hills, about 10 miles away.
Slightly further afield is Northumberland National Park. A magnificent area full of natural beauty and tranquil vistas. A place worth visiting if only for the local friendliness. Edinburgh, a city steeped in history and atmosphere. A recent city of Culture, with much to see and do. Newcastle, again a city rich in culture and working class history - fast becoming a city of innovation and technology with it's new 'blinking-eye' bridge - a must see at night time. You can even visit the Guillemots, Razorbills, Puffins and Grey Seals at outer Farne Islands and see the loveable pups if you are quiet enough. There is even Lindisfarne (Holy Island) to visit just on the coast too. The whole area around Haggerston Castle is rich in adventure and peacefullness - both in good measure to satisfy anybody's holiday criteria.
The whole area is steeped in history from Viking to the present day. In the evening there is a choice of good quality restaurants such as the Black Bull at Lowick, or Lindisfarne at Beal. 'Real' Seaside Fish and chips at Seahouses is just too good to be missed, try their Haddock it's the best.
